I’m not advising from the outside.
I’m a farming family member still building our own diversified businesses, and dealing with the same challenges my clients face every day.
About Emlyn
I grew up in a farming family, and I’ve spent my career building on those foundations, not by stepping away from farming, but by building alongside it. As a partner of a farming business and director of a number of diversified businesses, I’ve been involved in developing a genuinely diverse set of enterprises on top of the core farming operation. That’s an ongoing journey, not a completed one.
Along the way, that journey has included buying and selling businesses, and working across a range of structures — partnerships, limited companies, franchises and trusts. I understand the legal, financial and relational complexity that comes with building something multi-faceted as a family, because I’ve navigated all of it. Not in theory. In practice.
What I know from that experience is this: the businesses that thrive are the ones where the family is genuinely aligned around a shared vision, clear roles and a governance structure that lets good decisions get made without unnecessary conflict. The ones that struggle are almost always missing one or more of those foundations, regardless of how good the underlying opportunity is.
That’s why I built The Diversified Farmer. To give farming families and rural estates access to the kind of structured, experienced support that I wished had been available to us — from someone who is still in it, still learning, and still genuinely invested in getting it right.
“My job isn’t to tell you what to do. It’s to give you the clarity, structure and challenge you need to make the best decisions for your family and your business, for the long term.”
