Ryton Fields Farm
Meaningful growth in five months.
Ambition and assets — but without a clear plan to unlock them.
Michaela Postlethwaite came to The Diversified Farmer at a pivotal moment for Ryton Fields Farm. The farm had already taken some steps into diversification, but without the structure, clarity and strategic direction needed to realise its full potential. The assets were there. The ambition was there. What was missing was a clear plan and the systems to deliver it.
The challenge wasn’t opportunity — there was plenty of that. The challenge was getting clear on which opportunities to back, how to manage them alongside the core farming operation, and how to build in the routines that would allow the business to grow without overwhelming the people running it.
Building the foundations for confident, sustained growth.
Working through our coaching programme, Michaela and her team focused on clarifying the farm’s commercial direction, creating structure around the new enterprises, and building accountability into the way the business was run. We worked through the farm’s opportunity map, prioritised the highest-potential revenue streams, and put in place the management routines that allowed each enterprise to be tracked and developed properly.
The commercial buildings — a significant but underperforming asset — were a particular focus. With clearer positioning, better systems and a more confident approach to pricing and occupancy, they became the farm’s most significant income generator.
Meaningful growth — in five months.
Within five months of working together, the results at Ryton Fields were already significant. The commercial buildings, repositioned and better managed, more than doubled their income and became the farm’s most reliable revenue stream. A new enterprise, the dog paddock, launched and is on track to deliver strong returns in its first year.
The numbers tell part of the story. But what they don’t capture is the shift in how Michaela and her team approach the business - with more clarity, more confidence, and a structure that means growth doesn’t have to mean more chaos.
Before we worked with Emlyn, our diversification turnover was £85,280. The commercial buildings alone are now generating £189,600, and the dog paddock is on track to deliver an additional £30,000 in its first year. This brings our projected diversification income to £219,600 — an increase of approximately 158% compared to before we worked together.
